We don’t call it lying exactly but the point of sales is to move product, PERIOD. Doesn’t seem to matter if the person needs or can afford things, or whether they came in with a certain purchase in mind…we always hear some version of Do you want fries with that?
I can’t believe in particular, the way vehicles are sold. The FIRST thing a salesman does when you get in the vehicle is TURNS ON THE RADIO, as if that has ANYTHING to do with the car’s quality.
And haggling OK, somewhat understandable since the market varies. But Good God. If they want to get the best price all the time, they could only sell cars once a week, on Saturday afternoon, BY AUCTION, just like Grandma’s estate. Every other day is for test driving and filling out paperwork. That way the buyer decides how much the car is worth, and the dealer can take it or leave it. Why is this NOT the way things are done? In the meantime, GO Saturn, like your sales style. Got any Toyota’s?

Because Unfortunately, most of the people in sales now are not really SALESMAN, they are mostly hustlers or people who can’t get a tradesman job.
I have been a SALESMAN all of 40+ working years.I sold Kirby vacuums door to door all thru the 70’s and 80’s and never once argued with any customer or potential customer.
Many of my collueges from then and now could say the same thing.
I really don’t like the way salesman act now either.Iam surethere are still some good ones out there ,but they seem to be far and few between.
Interesting question….made me think back to July when I was forced (old one half dead) to buy a new vehicle. The ‘kid’ selling the vehicle couldn’t be nicer, chubby cheeked, innocent looking guy trying to feed his family. That was in stark contrast to the ’slime bag’ who came over to ‘finish’ the deal. If you could put the picture on the poster of Would you buy a used car from this character he would win hands down.
Sad to say but this attitude seems prevalent in society
today, not just sales. Am I getting too old, or should we be looking for that kinder, gentler, nation.
