a friend purchased a 2002 durango from a auction with moderate front end damage can this vehicle be towed without a dolly or trailering the vehicle…..I say no friend says yes

I bought the vehicle cheap at an auction. Everything is in peak condition, but one detail nags at me.The dashboard display showing what gear I’m in is off by one. When I’m on ‘N’ the car is actually in reverse, when I’m on ‘D’ it’s really neutral. ‘3′ is drive, etc… ANY information is appreciated, what causes this? Is it expensive to fix?(ballpark estimate) Will it become a problem if driven without remedy? I just want to know if it is a big deal or not.

I work for an auto auction delivering cars and trucks to the auction and then to dealers after the auction. Some of these vehicles are not in great shape!

The other day, a coworker was driving a Subaru outback and rear ended another car. He claims that the brakes on the car worked well until the accident. In that instance, he claims the brakes “felt” normal in that the pedal did not go to the floor but did not even slow down the car.

If my thinking is correct, it is possible that the system malfunctioned and sensed that all four wheels were locked and released (or prevented) hydraulic pressure to the brake cylinders.

Do any of you certified mechanics out there have an experience with this?

I have a 98 Chevy Lumina. 115,000 miles on it. It blew something (piston, bearing, whatever) in the Engine. Engine needs to be replaced. That’s about 2500 bux at worst…sure we could shop around and get it cheaper, but that’s not the point. It also needs all new tires, which is another 5/600. It just seems like a lot of money to sink into a car that is basically a piece of crap. We owe under a grand on it. So, I’m thinking we take our three grand or so, put it down on a brand new vehicle before the repossesion takes place. I know that they sell the car at auction or do something and we will owe the differnce on their recovery. But I just don’t want to deal with this car anymore. It seems really messed up that a car that is relativley so young would be so useless. So what do we do??? Actually sink the money into it or go with the new vehicle plan??

I just replaced an engine in a customers car … took one from a wrecked vehicle that he bought at an auction, and put it in his wifes car … however … the alarm system is engaged … he does not have the pad to deactivate it, have called the dealership, read the owners manual, and tried everything … I can’t finish checking the vehicle … can’t even start it with the alarm system shutting everything down … does anyone know how to deactivate the alarm system for this vehicle and what might be causing it to do what it is doing so I can at least give him an answer or fix the problem for him … they really need the vehicle … any help or advice would be great … thanks (oh … its a factory installed alarm system)

I have had this vehicle for 1 and a half years I have had two transmissions put in and now they say that it needs a third. To get this car worked on I have to take it about 200 miles from where I live My question if I just tell them I am tired of this vehicle to come and get it would I be liable for the difference after auction?

I just bought a 2003 Lincoln LS from an auction last week. Everything seems to be running smoothly. I plan to take it to have a diagnostic test this week to ensure that there are no problems or just very minor. I love these cars and could not resist it, but I wonder how much it would cost to regularly maintenance this vehicle. It has only had one owner and has pretty low miles. Can you tell me some helpful information on suggestions on caring for it or even if it is a good car?
