I am going to an auction with one of my dad’s friends and I was wondering if you buy a vehicle from the auction can you register it and everything there like at a dealership or do you have to take the paperwork they give you up to DMV? I was wondering because I can’t drive the vehicle up to dmv if it isn’t registered right?

I am interested in buying a car but Autocheck reported that it had a Lein on i t back when it was originally purchased as a new car in 1999. In 2008 it was purchased through an Auto Auction through a dealership in which Im looking to buy the same car from.
If this car was purchased through and Auction by a delaership, that means the lien was taken care of by the dealership right?

In the details column of the autocheck report it stated that the title was present at the auction. (example below)

I purchased a card from a dealer. The car is legally mine. If the dealer bought the car at an auction, using a floor plan, and then defaulted on that loan, can the floor plan company legally refuse to send me the title? Since the floor plans’ loan to the dealer is not for any specific vehicle, how can they say that the title is collateral in their suit against the dealer?

I’ll try to keep it short: A year and a half ago I bought a car off ebay, paid just under 10k from a guy in CA (I live in AZ). When I got there to pick it up he did not have the title and eventually sent it to me 6 months later. The car ended up being salvaged (which he did not disclose earlier) and the vehicle had changed hands 4 times (insurance to auction, auction to him, him to a woman he got it back from due to non payment) with no one ever completing the title change. So on the back of the title there was nowhere to put my name and is still in the insurance co. name
To this point I have not been able to complete the title change and it is still in his name. I’ve asked him to take the car back but said he doesnt have the money, I have started the bond process to put it in my name which is expensive. So far I’ve verified no one else has interest in the car, so it’s not stolen.
I want to sue this clown but how and where do I begin?

I was going to an insurance auction and or bid online and it came to me such a question how much would you say these new 2008 2006 2007 crashed or broken vehicles would be worth.

I had sold my car and it was impounded in Texas. I had filed the Vehicle transfer notification. If the car goes to auction and somebody buys it and not transfer the title, would it be still under my name?

I am trying to buy a car from a farmer I know, but they lost the title. They bought it at a auction a few years ago and never transfered the title into their name. It has now sat in their shop for two years and they want to get rid of it, but can’t find the title. What is the easiest way to go about getting a clear title for this vehicle so that I can but it and licence it? They live in ND and I live in MN so I have to have a title to transfer the vehicle. Also they bought it at a car auction wherehouse so they don’t know who the previous owner was.

I sold a vehicle almost 5 years ago. It has been recently towed and placed in storage until auctioned. The person in which I sold the vehicle to, never transferred or registered the vehicle in his name.

I can’t find the Bill of Sale that I had. It has been a little bit of time since I sold the vehicle. I signed the title and dated it.

Other than an a reply to an e-mail that I sent the guy who bought, cause I didn’t have his phone number and had to go through a bunch of friends just to get his e-mail address, is there anything I can do to avoid the lien on my license.

In the e-mail reply back, he admitted that he bought the car, and over a year and a half ago and resold the car.

Would bringing him to small claims court, or going down to the police and showing them what I have currently be enough proof to get the responsibility of the car lifted from me and passed on to the proper party?

He says he has a bill of sale for when he sold the car, but he doesn’t seem to be to eager on faxing me a copy of it.

Shortly after selling the car, within a year, it had been marked as a code enforcement violation, he had claimed responsibility for the car then. Would that also be something to use as well?

Just trying to find the right and easiest course of action to take. Trying to avoid anything which is going to be costly on me, and avoid paying for tow/storage fees for the car which is going to be auctioned shortly.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I was told that even if I got a car at a very good deal i.e. at a car auction I would have to pay state tax on the blue book value on the vehicle when I register it, not on what I actually paid. Is this true? (BTW- I am in the state of California). If you can direct me to a California Legal code that specifies this that would be great.

If the vehicle was acquired for free. Do you still have to pay state tax on the vehicle when you register it?

Theres this car that a girl bought from an auto auction. She hasnt registered it so I’m pretty sure I will have to pay for the Brake/Lamp inspection and the CHP inspection. The car has no plates. I want to drive it to the mechanic so they can do the mandatory inspection even though vehicle history reports show no collisions of any sort. Would this be legal?

I got involved in an accident with my 89 jeep cherokee on Jan. 17, 2007. the jeep was declared a total loss, and being as old as it was, it only took about $2200 worth in damage, so it wasn’t, fortunately, a mangled piece of metal. he was in excellent condition prior to the accident (new paint job, only 89k mis). anyways, the insurance company took him over and then sent him to some auction where he was described as salvage. i have some sentimental attachment to, er, Stan, so i checked out his carfax report and there is absolutely nothing there insinuating something ever went wrong with this vehicle. it says no accidents. it’s not listed as having a salvage title or anything. the latest info is dated 2/13/07 and says title or registration issued to insurance company and then Vehicle purchase reported
Title issued or updated. Is this sufficient information to imply the accident? Should it have taken this long to get the info. on the vehicle history report?

Is there a statute of limitations on claiming a stolen vehicle in New Jersey to auto insurers. The story goes about 6 months ago I had a car parked on a street for several weeks. When I went back to get the car I thought the car was towed and then was soled at auction because thats what they do with unclaimed vehicles that are towed. I called the Parking authority and they told me that the car was never towed or sold and that I should call the police and claim a stolen vehicle. So A. can I file a police report for a stolen vehicle 6 months after the fact it was stolen, and B. does anyone know if there is statute of limitations on claiming stolen vehicle to the insurance company the car had Full Coverage on it at the time.
