i repossess cars for a living, a car is never repossessed for one late payment. you must have missed other payments or have a long history of being excessively late. as far as a verbal agreement with your rep at the bank, that’s not quite the same as your written and signed agreement to make your payments and make them on time. i’m not saying that banks and other lending institutions(including in-house financing dealerships) are not shady businesses. they are actually much shadier than tow companies, who don’t in reality, have any connections with the mob. taking legal action against your financer will only result in costing you much more money than you would have payed to get your car out of impound in the first place and will definitely take longer than the 10-15 days your financer has to wait by law to auction off the car. it does sound like that particular tow company’s fees are ridiculously astronomical, it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to check them out if you can. possibly with the BBB, but at least find out what exactly they’re charging you for to make a $548.00 bill.

In the repo field this is called “lying” they tell you this, so they are fairly sure the car will be in front of your house, ( not hidden somewhere) And basicly there is no way you can prove it, since it was verbal over the phone.

so while yes, if you could prove it, you could sue them in court over it. But you can’t

So you pay the fees or lose your car.

You could…are you sitting down for this…..try paying your car payment on time! As for tow truck companies….they ****! The biggest scam in the whole world are the tow trucks. They have you by the short hairs….you HAVE to pay or you don’t get your CHIT BACK!

What a nightmare! You need to get everything in writing, it is difficult to prove a verbal agreement. You need legal help. If they have a clause in the agreement you signed, that they will repossess your vehicle if you are late on your payment, there is not much you can do. Read your contract. Good Luck.

Most towing companies are like bail bonding companies in that they are run by the mob with strong political ties. This is self evident by the “fees” they are allowed to collect. You can bet there are kick backs all over city hall with these astronomical “fees” and strong arm collection being allowed.

I don’t know which state you live in, but unless the car was a repo, and it was only a verbal agreement, there is little you can do, but as for the tow company charging you that much money, sounds like theft to me, you can check with the BBB to see if there have been any complaints filed against this tow truck company, and check their policy. If you can get a tape recorded conversation with this company (car and tow truck) it might help, wish you luck. Also try and see if there is not a “conflict of interest” between this car company and the tow truck company and see who is benefitting from this conflict of interest.

Car loan companies usually wait until you miss three payments before they come and get your car.

You can try and take some sort of legal action, but your car will be gone before anything gets resolved. I would get the money together and pay the loan company and the repossession folks soonest…………….
