1997 Toyota Avalon?

by admin on September 28, 2009

I just replaced an engine in a customers car … took one from a wrecked vehicle that he bought at an auction, and put it in his wifes car … however … the alarm system is engaged … he does not have the pad to deactivate it, have called the dealership, read the owners manual, and tried everything … I can’t finish checking the vehicle … can’t even start it with the alarm system shutting everything down … does anyone know how to deactivate the alarm system for this vehicle and what might be causing it to do what it is doing so I can at least give him an answer or fix the problem for him … they really need the vehicle … any help or advice would be great … thanks (oh … its a factory installed alarm system)

The dealership couldn’t help you? That’s odd. There has to be some kind of a reset action for the alarm to recode it. He can also buy a new remote control from the dealer. But you have to give them the vin # of the engine you put in, not his original one.

You can try using his old computer on the new engine, but I don’t know if that will work.

Sorry I can’t be of more help. Alarm systems aren’t my forte`.

Find an electronics shop that installs alarms and ask if they can set up a pad for you to deactivate it. You could also get into the engine and just remove the alarm. Since its factory you could call toyota and ask them for a wiring diagram. Also you could call toyota and get them to get you another keypad for the alarm as they should still have the frequency in their computer if you give them the vin number.
